Green Echoes #34 - Join our Global Convening on April 21!
Welcome to Green Echoes, a newsletter from the Environmental Reporting Collective that highlights key investigative stories, data sources, funding, reporting and training opportunities and our projects from across Asia.
Help us plan our projects
In 2 weeks time, we're having our Global Convening, where we will share information on our next investigations, grants and programs for the coming year. It’s also an opportunity for you to give us your input on what you think we should be focusing on — and get involved!
As part of this, we’re conducting a survey to better understand our community, and the needs of reporters and newsrooms around the world. Tell us how we can better support your work here.
Round 3 Reporting Grants
Thanks to everyone who applied for our Collaborative Reporting grants during the second round — we’ll make announcement on the winners shortly.
Didn’t apply? The deadline for the second round of reporting grants was 15 March. If you sent in your application late, or weren’t able to meet the deadline, the next round closes on June 30th. Please apply, or respond to this email if you have any questions.
Opportunities and Resources
The Visura Project Grants for Freelance Visual Journalists is accepting applications. It’s for anyone working on visual stories about climate change, environmental justice, gender equality, racial justice, and human rights (deadline April 30.)
The Pulitzer Center Rainforest Journalism Fund has a Special Call for Proposals: Biodiversity in the Tropical Forests for projects in Southeast Asia (deadline April 30).
The Earth Journalism Network is accepting proposals for its Coastal Resilience Media Grants (deadline 3 May).
For data journalists — all the resources from the recent NICAR Conference are now available online, for free, including several focused on environmental investigations. Check them out here.
Also useful: New cropland Expansion data (with satellite imagery) from the World Resources Institute.
One of our members, Hongqiao Liu, has launched a English-language newsletter called Shuāng Tàn focused on tracking China’s policies and actions as the country strives to achieve its climate pledges.

That’s all for this week – do let us know, by responding to this email, if we missed anything.
Stay safe and healthy,
